Obituary
R.W. Gerald Faster Cohen
passed away last night. For Redwood Lodge, this is the end of an era.   Gerry began his masonic career, along with his Brother Moe Cohen, in the fall class of 1946.  He was one of 26 in the class.  Brother Cohen became Master of Redwood Lodge in 1954.  Three years later (1957) he was appointed Master of Ceremonies.  In 1976, W. Cohen was elected Secretary of Redwood Lodge. Gerry continued as Secretary of Redwood until May 2008, 32 years.  Gerry was appointed to his first Grand Lodge position in 1960 and was made a Right Worshipful District Deputy Grand Master at Large in 1996.

Gerry was well liked and respected throughout the Grand Lodge jurisdiction.  He was a mentor to many of Redwood’s Line officers and the Master’s ‘right had man’.  Many of us say that Gerry ran Redwood Lodge during his tenure as Secretary.  Nothing could be more true.  He made sure that everything was just right for meetings, social events and special events of the Lodge.  No one will be able to fill Gerry’s Masonic Shoes.  We have lost a great Mason, a true Brother and Friend.

“ He has laid down the working tools of the Craft and with them he has left that mortal part for which he no longer has use.  His labors here below have taught him to divest his heart and conscience of the vices and superfluities of life, thereby fitting his mind as a living stone for that spiritual building----that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”

Worshipful Joseph Keating on March 2, 2011.
